AI Revolution at iQiyi: content development transformed, processes shortened

Regarding the huge bets on new technologies, iQiyi starred in one of the first panels on the 2023 edition of ATF in Singapore, where Wang Xiaohui, CCO and president of PBC Group IQIYI, has been praising the work of the streamer on integrating AI technology in content development as well as other areas.

The executive specified that this technology is used in 3 stages of content development: ‘In the first phase, our creation process is being done with AI functions, where we summarize large volumes of texts or books; In a second phase we devise a plan to analyze a book or story, in this phase we analyze possible media impacts of its characters and how functional they can be to the story; and in a third phase, we usually create an AI tool to analyze the final product and see its impact’. Xiaohui was emphatic when referring to the fact that AI ‘used well’ can optimize processes.

Xiaohui highlighted that they have shortened processes at iQiyi from 3 to 4 days when done by humans to just one hour with AI. As he also highlighted, they have measured the results of these processes and have an accuracy of 90%.

Regarding the content strategy of the streamer, which in the last five years has released more than 100 originals, including 60 this year, it is experimenting in making exclusive content for itself, valuing the AVOD and SVOD levels. ‘We are still analyzing the financial results of recent years to define which model is best for us and that this does not impact the content’.

Likewise, Xiaohui mentioned a decided inclination of the platform towards historical series and more ambitious costume designs, taking advantage of the history of China and the global trend for these productions. ‘Our culture provides us with endless TV narratives,’ he said.
