ATF 2023: Streamer productions shine at Asian Academy Creative Awards Session

The Asian Academy Creative Awards recently collaborated with streamers to unveil the national winners for the best original productions. This insightful sesión at ATF, the event provided a glimpse into the finest productions in each region, highlighting the cream of the crop.

Stanley Hsu, Executive Producer at Mimecast, shared the journey of creating The Amazing World, an innovative crime series centered around a cult religious group. Breaking new ground in the crime genre, the series explores themes that demand courage and creativity.

Imillya Roslan, Director of Production at Viu Malaysia, delved into the inspiration behind Nenek Bongkok Tiga, a series that was born from the contrast between a seemingly cheerful children’s song and its dark lyrics. ‘With this series, we wanted to explore Malaysian mythology, the series weaves a tale of strangers trapped in another world, emphasizing human responses to adversity’.

Jean Yeo, Creative Director at Ochre Pictures, presented Last Madame Season 2 (meWATCH, Mediacorp Drama on YouTube), a prequel that delves into espionage in Southeast Asia during the 1930s. The series uncovers the untold stories of Kari Kisan, a Japanese prostitute who was also spies, shedding light on a fascinating yet lesser-known aspect of history.

Derek Wong, Head of Originals at Viu, engaged in a discussion about Mischievous Students, an adaptation from a popular Wattpad story. Exploring the challenges of adapting online novels, Wong emphasized the importance of engaging the audience through online communities and managing visual expectations.
