The international commercial team of RTVE is returning to MIPCOM in Cannes from October 21 to 24 to showcase its latest productions, including the series Ena, Asuntos Internos, Las Abogadas, and the documentary ADN Colón: Su verdadero origen.
MIPCOM is a global fair for the co-production, purchase, sale, financing, and distribution of entertainment content across all platforms, attracting key executives from the television and film industries. It brings together over 11,000 executives from 100 countries, including 3,500 buyers of content and formats. This year, Spain is the Country of Honor at the 40th edition of the market.
World Premiere of Ena on Monday, October 21
RTVE’s series Ena, about the life of Queen Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg, will have its world premiere on October 21, during the first night of MIPCOM CANNES. Co-produced by RTVE, Ena La Serie AIE, La Cometa TV, and Zona App, this historical drama has been selected from Spanish productions and is part of the Spain Country of Honor program at MIPCOM 2024.
Created by Javier Olivares and directed by Anaïs Pareto and Estel Díaz, Ena tells the story of a young Englishwoman who never dreamed of becoming Queen of Spain. Upon marrying King Alfonso XIII, Victoria Eugenia had to renounce her culture and religion, facing numerous challenges from her wedding day onward.
The premiere will take place at 6:00 PM at the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals, hosted by journalist Irene Jiménez. Present at the screening will be José Pastor, Director of Film and Fiction at RTVE, lead actors Kimberley Tell (Victoria Eugenia) and Joan Amargós (Alfonso XIII), and executive producer Luis Hernández.
ADN Colón: Su verdadero origen
The documentary ADN Colón: Su verdadero origen will be presented internationally on Tuesday, October 22, at 12:30 PM in Auditorium «A» at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. Following a video showcasing the research process, a panel discussion will take place, featuring director Régis Francisco López and producer Ainhoa del Castillo, moderated by José Pastor.
This documentary attracted a large audience in Spain during its premiere on October 12, with over 2 million viewers and a 21.5% share on La 1, leading its time slot and drawing significant interest from younger audiences.
Asuntos Internos and Las Abogadas
RTVE will also present the new series Asuntos Internos and Las Abogadas. Asuntos Internos, starring Laia Manzanares, Silvia Abascal, and Marta Poveda, is a six-episode thriller set in a police station in working-class Vallecas in the late 1970s. The story revolves around corruption, heroin trafficking, and the fight of three women against it.
Las Abogadas, created by Patricia Ferreira, is based on the true stories of four female labor lawyers who fought for justice in Spain during the final years of the Franco dictatorship. The series stars Paula Usero, Irene Escolar, Elisabet Casanovas, and Almudena Pascual.
International Channels and RTVE Play +
RTVE will also highlight its international linear channels, which continue to grow in subscriber numbers worldwide. These include TVE Internacional, the news channel 24 Horas, the fiction channel STAR TVE, and Clan, which reaches millions of households across 17 countries in the Americas, including the U.S.
Additionally, RTVE offers access to its subscription-based on-demand platform RTVE Play+, available across Europe and the Americas, featuring more than 100,000 hours of content and live streaming of four linear channels.
