Onza, in collaboration with Azor Producciones, is set to release Iberia y Sabana: Una vida salvaje, a 4K blue-chip documentary that examines the connections between the Iberian dehesa and the African savanna. The documentary, scheduled to premiere in 2025 on RTVE, highlights similarities between these distant ecosystems and the species that inhabit them.

‘I had always heard that the Iberian dehesa was similar to an African savanna, and at a young age, I was able to see it for myself’, said Eduardo Barrachina, director of the documentary. ‘At first, I thought it was just a matter of landscape, but the similarities go far beyond that’.
The 52-minute film focuses on parallel survival strategies among species living in these environments, including foxes and jackals, deer and Thomson’s gazelles, genets, Iberian wolves, wild boars, and warthogs. The documentary follows the lives of an Iberian lynx and a leopard from birth to adulthood, offering insight into how they adapt to their respective ecosystems. ‘The resemblance between the dehesa and the savanna extends beyond aesthetics’, Barrachina explained.
Gonzalo Sagardía, CEO of Onza Distribution, highlighted the significance of this type of documentary in the international market. ‘We are pleased to be part of the production of Iberia y Sabana: Una vida salvaje‘. ‘Blue-chip documentaries remain one of the strongest and most stable genres in the industry. At Onza Distribution, we aim to build a strong catalog in this segment’.
Iberia y Sabana: Una vida salvaje will be presented at MIP London from February 23 to 27 as part of Onza Distribution’s slate. It joins a growing list of nature documentaries from the company, which has recently secured sales for other titles: Cuánto vale una ballena was acquired by TV Monaco, Centinelas del viento by RTP Portugal, and Relatos salvajes de Madrid by CCTV in China, as well as buyers in Poland and Portugal (RTP).
