Chilean Megamedia opens production hub to drive International growth

Megamedia, the Chilean media holding company, has inaugurated its first international entertainment production hub in Lima, Peru, marking a significant step in its expansion strategy. This move follows two years of successful drama production in Peru, where Megamedia’s drama division produced three telenovelas for Latina TV.

Patricio Hernández, CEO

The new hub is immediately focusing on the production of a new reality show for Mega (one of the leading FTA channels in Chile), El Internado. According to Patricio Hernández, CEO, the format represents ‘an innovation in the reality genre for the network, focusing on participants who enter an academy to learn, despite having no prior culinary experience’. ‘The show combines the standard conflicts of absolute confinement with extreme physical and culinary competitions. Participants must also cultivate their own food from a rural garden’.

State-of-the-art production capabilities

The production hub is located near Lima on a 20,000-square-meter esplanade and features advanced technological implementation capable of producing up to three reality shows simultaneously. The facility is equipped with two powerful direction switches, 12 giant screens, 45 robotic cameras, six broadcast cameras, and two jib cranes. The technical infrastructure includes 40 audio feeds, a fiber optic signal linking the location to Megamedia‘s offices in Santiago and Lima, 30 editing stations, and a 1400 TB audio/video storage server. The hub also provides comprehensive services, including production offices, a medical assistance room, dressing rooms, and a staff casino.

Peruvian hub, where reality-show El Internado was filmed

Hernández stated that the new hub ‘marks the decided objective of Megamedia to incorporate itself as a relevant actor in the international market circuit’. He added, ‘It is a project that will open many doors for the demand for content with the highest realization standards’.

Strategic expansion and market leadership

The Peruvian hub is central to Megamedia‘s goal of expanding its content offerings beyond news and fiction, aiming to secure a leadership position in entertainment. The network seeks to capture audiences it was previously missing, thereby continuing its decade-long audience dominance in Chile.

The network has recently launched new programs, including Only Friends and Coliseo, the latter offering the winner a major prize: a performance slot at the Viña del Mar Song Festival 2026.

Hernández highlighted the company’s strong domestic position, noting that Megamedia is ‘the most relevant and consumed communications holding company in Chile with a decided international projection’. He noted that the channel has maintained and increased its connection with the public, reflected in its 37% commercial audience share for its main channel, Mega 1. However, he acknowledged the evolving market: ‘That has obliged us to broaden and perfect our platforms to distribute our content more efficiently and effectively, always maintaining the seal of quality that distinguishes Megamedia’. The company’s international production division, Global Content, has high confidence in the new reality show, given the team’s history of developing over 30 reality shows in the past 20 years.
