TonderoDistribución has had a great start to the year with news from Peruvian production to the world, more international co-productions and the strengthening of TonderoEspaña, as well as the sale of the scriptedformats from successful films to leading European companies.
Despite the pandemic generated by the closing of the theatres in Peru, TonderoDistribución has had a great start of 2021: on the one hand, the epic series El Ultimo Bastionfrom TV Peru premiered on February 25 on Netflix with great success. ‘It is something very important for our industry: a period production with many top-level actors, which also coincides with the country’s bicentennial. It is a very important recognition that allows the talent of my country to be seen to the world’,remarks Cecilia Gómezde la Torre, associate manager of TonderoDistribución.
In addition, she closed the sale of the format of his feature film SolteraCodiciada to Studiocanal (France). And an important multiplatform agreement for five projects with Movistar Play and América TV, including films such as Medias Hermanas and QuienDijoDetox, and the series La Casa de la Comedia. ‘The first of them has already been recorded and the second is in post-production. We are happy with these alliances because they give great movement to our industry’, she adds.
‘The decision of América TV to bet on international productions, as in the case of Princesas, means that doors continue to open to new co-productions since there are nowadays large platforms seeing Peru as a production hub’, indicates Gómez de la Torre, who also underlines: ‘We closed an agreement with Zapata Films to represent When in Venice, a romantic film recorded in Venice of indescribable beauty and in co-production with Germany. It is from the renowned Colombian director Juan Zapata, winner of many awards for Another Forever which is currently available on Netflix (USA and Europe)’, she says.
And she finishes: ‘We are co-producing a lot from TonderoEspaña. La casa de Caracol for Amazon Prime Video was recorded last year with the leading roles of Paz Vega, Javier Rey, Carlos Alcántara and Norma Martínez. And we are with other projects, which will be announced when they are in production. New co-productions with Spanish companies are coming, too. 2021 is getting strong’.
