The second edition of Turkish Showcase at LA Virtual Screenings has shined with seven key powerhouses offering the newest dramas to the global market. Hosted by Carolina Acosta-Alzuru, Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, the session brought together Kanal D International, Inter Medya, MISTCO, Eccho Rights, Madd Entertainment, ATV and Calinos Entertainment.
‘Turkey has been one of the territories that has remained more stable for audiovisual production in the world’,initiated Professor and researcherCarolina Acosta-Alzuru, who also highlighted that around 600 million people in four continents are consuming Turkish content. ‘This is mainly due to the production values of their titles, since they touch the classic themes of melodrama, family and love, while offering different narrative twists’, she added.
Mikaela Pérez, Kanal D International sales manager, showed images of the new titles of the company,including the adaptation of the Dr. House series, Hekimoglu; the romantic dramas Love Trap and Romance Next Door; likewise, Prince of Passion, Flames of Desire and the successful manners series Ruthless City. ‘All of these series have been guaranteed hits in Turkey’, she completed.
Fredrik afMalmborg, Managing Director of Eccho Rights commented that currently 6 titles from his catalog perform ‘very well’ on Turkish TV: The Red Rom and My Home My Destiny, the latest projects from OGM Pictures produced by OnurGuventam for TV8; and the most important one at LAVS, Chrysalis, which is currently on air in Turkey on Kanal D.
Emre Gorentas, ATV‘s content sales deputy manager highlighted her recent drama For My Family, which is currently in production. A big presentation has been done previously to LAVS. It is a traditional family drama about four siblings broadcast on Saturday prime time and showing strong growth since its premier.
Meanwhile, from Madd Entertainment, ÖzlemÖzsümbül, head of sales, highlighted A Woman Scorned, produced by Medyapim, and adapted from BCC‘s Doctor Foster; Flames Of Fate, Nehir and Love is On The Air, whileCan Okan, CEO at Inter Medya, highlighted the new dramas Scorpion, Last Summer, The Trusted. This latest title, produced by TIMS&B Productions and broadcast by ATV, is one of the strongest series of 2021 in Turkey.
Lastly, AysegulTuzun, from MISTCO, offered images of his two great titles of 2021: the love storyThe Innocentsfrom OGM Pictures, and the action drama The Shadow Team from TIMS&B Production. Both have been huge successes on Turkish pubcaster TRT1 during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, respectively.
