Banijay Germany is focusing on micro-dramas

The production company is expanding its digital strategy with its first short-form project.

Banijay Productions Germany, part of Banijay Entertainment, has announced its foray into the development of micro-dramas, marking its debut in a rapidly expanding genre driven by mobile viewing. The news was unveiled at Series Mania, where the company showcased its new slate of drama series.

The first project (as yet untitled) consists of 28 episodes and brings together eight German creators with a combined audience of over 33 million followers. Conceived from the outset in collaboration with digital talent, the series builds on the production company’s experience in partnerships with creators, as seen in formats such as Mission Unknown for Prime Video and content created with influencers such as SelfieSandra.

The production is led by executive producer Imke Runde, who brings her extensive experience in fiction with titles such as Verklag mich doch! and Richterin Barbara Salesch. The project combines the company’s entertainment know-how with a narrative specifically designed for mobile platforms.

Katrin Stefanović, Managing Director, highlighted that micro-dramas represent “a key space for experimenting with new narrative and distribution models”, in a context where viewing habits are evolving rapidly.
