MIFA’ Annecy 2026: Mediawan Kids & Family unveiled major slate and strategic expansions

Mediawan Kids & Family made a significant impact at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, announcing a robust array of new projects, platform expansions, and strategic industry partnerships that underscore the group’s ambitious growth trajectory.

Central to their announcements was the launch of «Wonderland Junior TV», a new FAST channel designed to bring premium European children’s and family content to U.S. audiences. This platform will provide viewers with free access to more than 1,700 episodes, leveraging Mediawan’s deep expertise in production and editorial curation.

The company is also aggressively expanding its digital-first footprint through key collaborations. Notably, Mediawan is partnering with Madbox to bring Pocket Champs, a successful French gaming IP, to life as a YouTube-first digital series. Launching in 2027, the project will feature four special episodes and is intended to scale into a 360-degree transmedia franchise, capitalizing on the IP’s massive global player base and social media traction.

On the cinematic front, Mediawan reinforced its presence in the market with four ambitious animated feature films currently in production, all aimed at a 2027 release. The slate includes Twisted, directed by Lino DiSalvo and co-produced with Palomar; the Dutch-South African co-production Spike; the Toon2Tango-developed PalutenFreedom, which brings the world of the popular German gamer to the big screen; and Wings of Freedom, a futuristic tale from studio Good Hero co-produced with Studiocanal.

The television and series pipeline remains equally active. The studio is launching Atta Slam, an action-adventure series led by Igloo Studio, and has commenced production on a 52-episode CGI series based on the Niko franchise, in collaboration with Toon2Tango and ZDF Studios. Furthermore, the company confirmed that projects such as Anansi, Artefacts: Thieves of Thieves, and Alexander Deliver are actively moving through development and production, ensuring a steady stream of high-quality content across diverse platforms.

Mediawan’s distribution arm continues to strengthen its library as well, acquiring new titles like the second seasons of Maddie + Triggs and Barn Kidz. The group is also deepening its strategic partnership with El Reino Infantil, announcing that The Little Prince and Friends will soon join the latter’s network, further expanding the reach of Mediawan’s premium children’s content into international markets.

Finally, the Miraculous universe remains a central pillar of Mediawan’s portfolio. With the sixth season currently airing and the seventh already in production, the brand continues to demonstrate long-term viability. The group also teased Miraculous Stellar Force, an original 2D anime-inspired spin-off scheduled for 2027 with Disney Branded Television, while celebrating the continued explosive digital growth of the Miraculous Chibi series, which has seen a 132% year-on-year increase in views.
