Gaumont: ‘Ballerina 2’ is already in production

Gregory Ouanhon and Laurent Zeitoun, co-founders of Good Hero

Gaumont and Good Hero are already working on Ballerina 2, the sequel to the 2016 animated film that follows Félicie, a young orphan from Brittany who travels to Paris to fulfill her dream of becoming a ballerina at the Opera. The new production is scheduled for a worldwide release in late 2029, ten years after the first installment.

Laurent Zeitoun and Gregory Ouanhon, co-founders of Good Hero, will once again lead the project as producers, while Zeitoun will also take on the role of director. Gaumont, for its part, will once again serve as distributor in France and internationally.

The first film was released in more than 100 countries and grossed over $130 million at the global box office, a performance that drove the decision to revive the franchise and expand its universe. In parallel with the feature film, Good Hero is developing an animated series based on the property, with British screenwriter Andrew Burrell, known for Disenchantment and the Danger Mouse reboot.

The project also reflects Gaumont’s strategy of developing content with international reach and leveraging its properties across various formats, from film to digital platforms. The company currently operates in five countries and works on feature films, series, animation, and documentaries.
