NHK presents groundbreaking co-productions

Amazing Dinoworld 2, documentary.

Presenting three major co-productions that will be highlighted at ATF, NHK is currently working to strengthen the relationship with global partners from the early stage of development which enables them to reach a broader audience.

Amazing Dinoworld 2 (2×52’, 4K/HD) is a co-production with Bonne Pioche, Curiosity and Autentic. Following Amazing Dinoworld (2019, 2×49’), the team sheds light on the latest and hottest question, “What really happened to the dinosaurs?”.

NHK also conducted a joint shooting in South America with Bonne Pioche discussing how, where and what to film which added an extra value to the content. Moreover, AR content was developed with Curiosity to attract a younger audience. NHK producers are now editing the International Version with Curiosity.

Deep Ocean: Red Sea (1×52”, 4K/HD) is a co-production with ZDF/ARTE and in collaboration with National Center for Wildlife of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and OceanX Media. Red Sea has long attracted the attention of researchers due to its unique origin and ecological environment. However, deep sea research has never been conducted because of geopolitical reasons. NHK was the only foreign media to accompany the world’s first deep sea expedition led by the research institute of Saudi Arabia.

‘We follow the unprecedented research that could bring us closer to the origin of life’, commented a spoken person from NHK. Filmed using a 8K UHD camera developed especially for the project, the program invites the audience to an unknown deep sea world of adventure.

Nature’s Hidden Miracles (3×52”, 4K/HD) is a co-production with Curiosity and Autentic/Rai. The series succeeded in visualizing the surprising abilities of plants, insects and microbes, such as how plants communicate with each other. For the very first time, the ‘complete metamorphosis’ of an insect was also captured on camera. Plants, insects and microbes are all-important players in the natural world and offer us insights into what is the best rule for this planet — the diversity and symbiosis of all living things.
