Onza Distribution promotes Palomares: The Atomic Bom Fiasco at LA Virtual Screenings

Palomares

The Movistar + production was launched to the worldwide market last week at the beginning of LA Virtual Screenings, under the international distribution company Onza Distribution. It is one of the most serious nuclear accidents before Chernobyl, which occurred in a small town on the Mediterranean coast, 55 years after the truth has been declassified.

Onza Distribution has closed an agreement with Movistar + to carry out the international sales of its new documentary series Palomares: The Atomic Bom Fiasco (4x’52), which premiered on Friday, April 22 on that platform. The documentary was released on May 11 at LA Virtual Screenings, and can be viewed at the company’s booth. This original Movistar + documentary series was made in collaboration with 93 Metros, those responsible for El Palmar de Troya and Clandestino. Directed by Álvaro Ron (Hernán, La Caza: Monterpedido) and script by Daniel Boluda (El Palmar de Troya) and María Cabo (Clandestino).

On January 17, 1966, four thermonuclear bombs with the capacity to cause the largest atomic explosion in human history fell in Palomares, a small town of just 1,000 inhabitants on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. One of the four will take 80 days to be found. 55 years later, Palomares reconstructs for the first time, in the key of a thriller, what happened in those days.

1,600 soldiers of the American army land in Palomares to dispose of the radioactive material scattered by two of the bombs, before the astonished gaze of the locals of that district of just over 1,000 inhabitants. The Spanish authorities rule out evacuating the town, it would damage the image of a country as it lives off tourism. The international press is silenced by both sides; The United States does not want to be held responsible for this huge mistake and Spain does not want to become famous for being radioactive. Today, finally, the reports of what really happened will see the light.

Carlos Garde, director of Onza Distribution, said: ‘We are very happy to start collaborating with a brand as well positioned internationally as Movistar +. Palomares is a unique, silenced story that is already generating conversation among the main international buyers. This alliance with Movistar + is part of our growth strategy, joining the key producers in Spain’
