The moment of animation in Latin America & Spain

In alliance with the Ibermedia Program and La Liga Iberoamericana de la Animación, Virtual Screenings Worldwide premiered the panel “Children’s content creation and distribution in Spain and Latin America” with top players of the region, who have reviewed the big momentum of the segment is gaining, from the production to creation plus global distribution.

Yago Fandiño, head of kids content at RTVE (Spain), who leads the leading Spanish network Clan channel, confirmed the channel is open to co-production with partners. He referred to the ‘challenges’ of administrating the programming grid: ‘The role of programmer is still more relevant than ever in channels aimed at children, since we have to use all our expertise to be the best possible curators: read and know what the audience needs and wants. It’s also an interesting place to pitch innovative ideas to this content-hungry segment’, he underlined.

Bernardita Ojeda, director and founder at Pájaro TV (Chile), added: ‘As a creator, I think the most important thing is the story we want to tell and how it will impact the audience we are targeting. the latter is very important, because unlike adult fiction, there are various age ranges in content for children. But that’s also where what’s interesting lies, because it allows us to be more creative, either with the narrative or with the animation techniques we want to use’.

Juan Carve, director of Olivia y Los Misterios (Uruguay), concluded: ‘There are many challenges for the animation directors in Latin America, basically because the window with which we most like to work is with the public, where we feel that there is more freedom creative, but specialized channels are very few in the region. However, there are great opportunities in the digital space, from where the leap to the traditional screen is very frequent, once a success has been achieved’.
