ATF 2025: innovation, anime, and lots of Asian content

After three intense days, Asia TV Forum & Market 2025 closes today, once again highlighting why APAC is currently one of the most dynamic drivers of the audiovisual industry. Although the final day does not include conferences, the corridors remain busy until midday, with meetings that reflect the general market climate: expanding opportunities, but also the need for perseverance, strategic choices, and long-term alliances.

Yesterday's session captured the creative pulse of the region. Between presentations, strategic analyses, and pitchings, ATF showcased the maturity of an ecosystem where the unstoppable rise of K-Content coexists with the sustained growth of animation and a renewed interest in international co-production models. Laboratories between Asia and Europe, sessions dedicated to children's audiences, conversations about anime, and spaces focused on financing and IPs confirm that the region thinks globally and understands that collaboration will be the engine of the future.

Showcases were once again the big draw for buyers. Japan opened with a trio of animated films that reaffirm the relevance of anime as a cultural passport: "Phoenix: The Next Chapter, Dropkick on My Devil!!", and "Kizuna no Allele". Korea, under the umbrella of KOCCA, showcased titles with export potential such as "To My Beloved Thief, Buy King, Date My Daughter, Surviving Without Money", and "K-Stars & You ". China, through CCTV, presented international productions such as "Bhiksuni from Jinling, The Lost Tapes of China ", and "Ancient Wizards of Light". And Thailand shone with GDH, which brought the comedy-drama "You're My Everything" and a solid slate of upcoming releases.

One of the most talked-about moments was the panel “K-Content in the Age of AI,” which showed the extent to which Korea is integrating artificial intelligence as a structural part of its production chain. Studio META-K surprised with S2U Reality, a system that reduces costs by more than 90% and speeds up processes without sacrificing quality. EBS presented "The Navy's Morpho Class", an educational project generated entirely with AI, while 15 Minutes of Sci-Fi and KT ENA's interactive formats confirmed that AI is already a central part of Korean storytelling.

Huace Group also generated excitement with its “2026 Grand Reveal” showcase, where it presented "Swords into Ploughshares", a 50-episode historical drama set during the unification under the Song dynasty. With on-location filming, thousands of specially designed costumes, and a marked historical rigor, the company once again positioned itself as one of the Chinese players with the greatest international projection.

Children's content had its own strategic focus. In his keynote address, Adam Woodgate (The Insights Family) highlighted how franchises such as "Demon Slayer, K-Pop Demon Hunters", and "One Piece" have become global benchmarks thanks to characters with purpose and narratives that resonate with the identity of new generations of digital natives. For Woodgate, “deep local” is now the key to global success.

Motohiko Ara's (Ampere Analysis) presentation on anime in APAC showed a rapidly expanding market. With local platforms offering more than 4.000 titles in markets such as Taiwan and Korea, and countries such as the Philippines leading in consumption, the region will continue to grow until 2029, driven by young audiences and the advancement of gaming-derived IPs.

Eri Watanabe, creative manager, Ax-On (Japan) is looking for partners for co-productions and services in Japan. Sheyuti Shahgufta, associate producer, Duronto TV (Bangladesh), prioritizes children's animation.

Maggie Liang, managing director, The Media Pioneers (UK), reinforces the importance of Asian content (from anime to K-Pop). ATF once again demonstrated its essence: a meeting point where Asia not only anticipates what is coming, but also defines where the global industry is headed.
