MIPLondon 2026: the new experience evolves
|
|
MIPLondon takes place for the second time from today, Sunday 22nd, till Tuesday 24th. A new format takes shape, shorter with 3 days instead of 4 days and a half last year, not to overlap with the London Screenings, that have mainly NBCUniversal from Monday afternoon and Paramount on Tuesday morning, but most of the rest main screeners are since Wednesday: Banijay, ITV, Lionsgate, FOX, WBD, All3Media, Sony, Fremantle, among others —see the full agenda at the graphics. |

The main goal of MIPLondon is to provide high-end networking, keynotes and conferences to the strong European buyer traffic that London Screenings generate in the city, quite similar as it happens in May with the LA Screenings, in Los Angeles. In 2025, the MIPLondon experience was quite successful, with its events and the main conferences ‘sold-out’ in capacity. The main challenge for this year is to take buyer traffic to the exhibitors, that are mainly upstairs with not so buyer meetings. Let’s see…

MIPLondon organizer RX France speaks about 1300 registered delegates from about 70 countries, including 600 confirmed international buyers. These figures are a bit lower from the announced before 2025 edition, which were 1600 delegates and 800 buyers. Though, for sure the numbers are equal or up from what we saw later during the event. The buyers include major executives from Amazon, Netflix, Disney, BBC, Warner Bros. Discovery, German ZDF, among others.

Operating under the slogan "Joining the Dots: Finding the Value", the market agenda reflects a clear intent to diversify beyond traditional distribution models, opening Sunday with an expanded version of the Doc and Factual Co-Production Summit, plus the showcase of the documentary "Greenwashed and market analysis" presentations by Guy Bisson of Ampere Analysis and Beatrice Rossmanith of Mothership Media Consultancy.

Also, the market is placing a heavy emphasis on the creator economy and emerging formats to gauge where the business is headed. The program includes keynotes from YouTube, Goalhanger, and Sidemen Productions, while dedicated sessions explore the rise of podcasts and the booming vertical microdramas sector. The latter receives specific attention with a dedicated summit and main stage panel featuring Timothy Oh from COL Group International and Alex Montalvo from GammaTime.

On the unscripted side, Talpa Studios is set to host a multi-format presentation on Monday, while Global Agency will premiere "The Mashup", a new music contest format. The event also spotlights Korean IP with showcases from KOCCA and a scripted-focused presentation from CJ ENM and Fifth Season. AI also occupies a central role at the agenda, with Deepdub presenting on AI voice scaling and a major roundtable forum in partnership with Luma AI, to discuss the practical and ethical implications of the technology in content creation.

As the market concludes on Tuesday, the focus shifts fast to the sixth edition of The London Screenings. The founding distributors -All3Media, Banijay, Fremantle and ITV Studios- and the major US studios mentioned above, anchor the week with rich presentations across the downtown. We’ll talk later about them during the week… Beta Film, Cineflix Rights, Keshet, PBS, Federation, SevenOne, France TV, BlueAnt, Eccho Rights, Boat Rocker, Fifth Season, among others, are also with screenings, ensuring that London remains as a critical hub for buyers seeking the next global hits.
