THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO has presented in Cannes the company’s main bets to advance its international consolidation, in addition to taking stock of the creative talent, growth and expansion that in recent years have positioned the STUDIO as one of the main independent producers and distributors of content at a global level.
During the Media Mastermind KeyNote that Laura Fdez. Espeso, CEO of THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, held at MIPCOM, one of the most prestigious events for professionals in the audiovisual industry, the board reinforced the main priorities in the roadmap to maintain the growth of the STUDIO. Among the most relevant priorities, Fdez. Espeso highlighted the incorporation of new direct creative talent, through exclusive and non-exclusive agreements, and also indirect talent through the acquisition of companies such as the most recent Cimarrón: Latin American production company.
Regarding strategic alliances, she highlighted the joint venture between THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO and the Turkish giant Medyapim, which is developing the adaptation of “Feriha’s Secret”; the content distribution agreement with the Belgian label Be-Entertainment, whose STUDIO has already adapted in Spain the formats “El Musical de tu vida” and “Finder$ Keeper$” (“This house is a mine”), and the launch of Moonlyon, Penélope Cruz’s production company.
In production, Laura Fdez. Espeso confirmed the commitment to non-fiction content, with the production each year of 75 shows including documentaries, game shows, information programs and live humor, with a presence both on free-to-air television and streaming platforms, with great international projection. In Fiction, the Studio has a well-established track record with the annual production of around twenty series, both originals and co-productions, where this year large-scale titles such as “Hand of Iron” (Netflix) stand out; “Romancero” (Prime Video); or the comedy with a nod to horror “The Other Side” (Movistar Plus+). Among the news, new comedy proposals by Diego San José and Borja Cobeaga were presented, in addition to productions in Latin America such as “Primate” and “Las Bravas”, both in their second season, or “Consuelo”, a new series co-produced with VIX .
Laura Fdez. Espeso also referred to the Studio’s main international franchise, the action thriller “The Head”, confirming that the start of filming for the third installment of the series will begin at the end of November and filming will take place in Tenerife. , Almeria and Madrid. Ran Tellem, Director of International Content Development at THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, repeats as showrunner; while Jorge Dorado will once again be in charge of management. John Lynch will once again lead the cast as biologist Arthur Wilde, alongside Katharine O’Donnelly and Olivia Morris.
As a novelty, the third season of “The Head” has a team of international screenwriters, led by Ran Tellem, with names such as the couple of directors and screenwriters Teresa de Pelegrí and Dominic Harari (“Loved Ones”, “Love at its Point «), the British Rachel Kilfeather («Vikings T3: Valhalla», «Red Rock»), the North American screenwriter Martine Moore («Bwitches») and the British Pearse Lehane («Doctor Who Confidential»). Another novelty is the location. On this occasion, the chosen place where the events will take place will be the Sahara Desert. Specifically, an area known as Bir Tawil, which remains the only territory on the planet considered a ‘no man’s land’.
