LAVS 2021: eSports revenues to reach 1,6 billion in 2024

Isadora dos Santos, junior market analyst at Newzoo, a pioneer company in the analysis of eSports, described the global ecosystem of this business segment and offered the top figures and perspectives for 2024 at the session “The Global eSports and Game-related Live-Streaming Ecosystem” during LA Virtual Screenings.

In most recent report from the company, entitled «Global eSports & Live Streaming Market Report», Newzoo confirmed that the business is experiencing ‘large’ revenues growth since 2019, reportingUSD 957.5 million in revenues that year vs. USD 1,1 billionexpected for 2021. The study predicts revenues will reach 1,6 billion in 2024, due to the fact that companies endemic to gaming will be investing in sports broadcasting and video game tournaments, with China being the market that would generate a third of this growth.

Likewise, dos Santos mentioned that not only companies dedicated to eSports benefit from this income, but also sponsored brands have seen income from these concepts, as well as media rights, publisher fees, merchandise & tickets, among others. Together, the sponsorship will see revenues of the order of USD 641 million by the end of 2021.

Another trend reported by Newzoo is related to the audience, which went from 397.8 million in 2019, to 474 million in 2021, with almost equal parts of occasional viewers and eSports enthusiasts. She also assured that by 2024 this number would reach 572.2 million viewers, especially driven by mobile sports, especially in the emerging markets of Asia Pacific, India, Brazil and Mexico.

Lastly, Do Santos stressed that only in Latin America, the audience segment already has 47.9 million viewers of eSports, while the income for the same period amounted to 47.5 million, being the segments of media rights and sponsorships, the most benefited.
