The Mediapro Studio: ‘We want to maintain and grow our positioning in the market’

During the Media Mastermind Keynote at MIPCOM, starring Laura Fernández Espeso, CEO of The Mediapro Studio, the executive presented the company’s main bets to advance its international consolidation, in addition to taking stock of the creative talent, growth, and expansion that in recent years, as the studio has positioned itself as one of the main independent content producers and distributors globally.

‘We want to maintain and grow our positioning to continue being a relevant player in the international market,’ said Fernández Espeso. ‘One of our objectives is expansion in the Anglo market, we have a very specific plan to increase our speed of implementation in the US. We are not going to reduce our production in Spanish, which will continue as strong as until now,’ she commented. ‘Another of our most notable assets is neutrality: not having a window is a strength because it makes us the ideal ally for our clients in any possible business model, whether co-productions, acquisitions, licenses, alliances with third parties, etc’.

Among the executive’s most relevant priorities, she has highlighted the incorporation of new direct creative talent, through exclusive and non-exclusive agreements, and also of indirect talent through the acquisition of companies such as the most recent Cimarrón: a Latin American production company.

Regarding strategic alliances, she highlighted the joint venture with Medyapim, with whom she is developing the adaptation of Feriha’s Secret; the content distribution agreement with the Belgian label Be-Entertainment with whom the company has already adapted in Spain the formats El Musical de tu vida, and Finder$ Keeper$ (This house is a mine), and the launch of Moonlyon, the production company by Penelope Cruz.

In production, Fernández Espeso confirmed the commitment to non-fiction content, with the production each year of 75 shows including documentaries, game shows, information programs and live humor, with a presence both on free-to-air television and for streaming platforms. streaming, with great international projection.

In Fiction, The Mediapro Studio has a well-established track record with the annual production of around twenty series, both originals and co-productions, where this year large-scale titles such as Iron Hand for Netflix stand out; Romancero, premiering November 3 on Prime Video; or the comedy with a nod to terror The Other Side, premiering on November 23 on Movistar Plus+. Among the novelties, it has advanced new comedy proposals by Diego San José and Borja Cobeaga, in addition to productions in Latin America such as Primate and Las Bravas, both in their second season or Consuelo, a new series co-produced with VIX.

Another topic that the executive also referred to was the Studio’s international franchise, the action thriller The Head, and confirmed that filming of the third season will begin in November. Ran Tellem, Director of International Content Development, repeats as showrunner. Jorge Dorado will once again be in the direction and John Lynch will lead the cast as the biologist Arthur Wilde, along with Katharine O’Donnelly and Olivia Morris. The series will bring together international actors from different nationalities, a hallmark of all its installments.
