TIFFCOM 2026 to Expand Opportunities for IP, Co-Production and Global Content Business

The Tokyo market will bring together international buyers, producers and content owners from October 28–30, with a program spanning business meetings, project financing, adaptation rights and industry conferences.

TIFFCOM, the content market affiliated with the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), will take place from October 28–30 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center HAMAMATSUCHO-KAN, bringing together companies across film, television, animation and the wider content industry.

The market continues to expand beyond the traditional buying and selling of completed titles, responding to growing demand for intellectual property (IP), remake rights, book adaptations, co-production partnerships and financing. Its business scope also covers OTT and VOD, games, music, new media, post-production, localization and other services.

The 2025 edition attracted more than 4,600 participants from 46 countries and regions, generating over 7,700 business meetings. For 2026, TIFFCOM will again combine exhibition and networking opportunities with specialized initiatives designed to connect Japanese rights holders and international producers.

A key component is the Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake (TIPM), which connects international buyers, sales agents and producers with Japanese publishers, studios and production companies seeking partners for screen adaptations and remakes. The market showcases manga, novels and established properties with potential for international development, offering one-to-one business meetings and pitching sessions. Following its expansion to Cannes in May through the Japan IP Market initiative with Marché du Film, the program returns to Tokyo with a broader international outlook.

The Tokyo Gap-Financing Market (TGFM) will provide another avenue for collaboration, supporting feature-film projects seeking to complete their financing. Its 2026 program includes 24 live-action and animation projects from around the world, alongside pitching events, talk sessions and awards. These activities are intended to connect filmmakers with potential financing partners and industry professionals, while encouraging international co-production.

TIFFCOM’s conference program will address developments shaping the global audiovisual business, including the international potential of Japanese IP, artificial intelligence and technology in Hollywood, the anime industry, and opportunities for cross-border production partnerships. The market has also highlighted a growing presence of exhibitors working in AI and data analytics, reflecting the expanding role of technology across content creation and distribution.

Organized by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and UNIJAPAN, TIFFCOM continues to position Tokyo as a meeting point for the international content business. By bringing rights holders, producers, buyers and financing partners together, the market aims to turn Japan’s extensive creative assets into new projects and strengthen connections with the global audiovisual industry.
